Vipava Valley

Vipava Valley is situated in the west of Slovenia near the Italian border. It is from 45 to 300 metres above the sea level and used to be a sea gulf.

Layers of flysch, which is sea sediment, and of sandstone represent the best soil for vine-growing. The valley has favourable sites which give wines extraordinary diversity and quality. Terraced areas on the sunny side of the hills are suitable for vine-growing. The mixture of the Mediterranean and continental climate results in mild winters and hot and dry summers. In this area the vine and wine tradition are deep-rooted and have a rich tradition.
